When the regular news gets boring, it's time to make your own. We were at the Asian market tonight and I happened to catch an interesting situation of a very aggressive crab eating another live crab. Yep - cannibalism is alive and well in the crustacean family. It's interesting because by the time I actually started taking my own video (sorry - the real video will be uploaded later), the carnivore was actually eating his second crab. The first one died, so the hungry dude moved on to another half-dead poor guy and started to devour him.I've never seen this type of behavior among crabs, but then again I don't usually stop long enough in this section of the Asian market to notice. However, watching this scene was somewhat fascinating. The phrase "eat or be eaten" kept running through my head and it made me realize what creatures of comfort humans have become. We no longer rely on hunting and farming skills to stay alive. We have plush homes with cushy couches and flat screen TV's that keep us preoccupied while restaurant employees work to prepare meals that we don't feel like preparing at home. Does this mean that have evolved into higher beings or does it mean that we have separated ourselves from our origins so much that we no longer fit into this world? Food for thought (pun intended). Comments welcome.
Good night.
